I won’t ask any bloggers to write, but I will share a list of 11 that I love to read.

11 Random Facts About Myself

  1. I’ve never owned a new car

  2. I have however, owned a new motorcycle

  3. It took me eight years to finish my bachelors degree

  4. It took me one year to finish my masters degree

  5. I’ve been writing the same short story for almost 30 years. It is Science Fiction and I think it might is still relevant today, perhaps more

  6. I didn’t quit smoking because of the health benefits, I quit because I hated being controlled by a drug

  7. I buried my best friend at 18 and find it very difficult to get close to people

  8. I can’t imagine doing a job that doesn’t consume my whole life

  9. I swear a lot when fixing mechanical things

  10. I feel very close to my brothers and sisters, but we rarely ever talk

  11. I don’t sleep very well

 

11 Questions from Sheri, Cathy, or Julie

I was nominated by three different people I’ll pick the question I like best from each.

 

  1. When did you know what you wanted to do for a career? How did you discover that?

I tell people I accidentally finished my bachelors at 30. (almost true). I then sat down and tried to decide what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. For me teaching seemed like more of a challenge than say engineering or accounting. Teaching felt like it would have meaning. I knew it was for me when I was writing a lesson plan and realized I was enjoying it, I’ve never enjoyed doing the minutiae of a job before.

  1. What are your top three favorite books of all time?

Foundation by Isaac Asimov. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.

  1. What do you do when you want to relax?

I walk, read, do some yard work or housework, occasionally I write, I need to try to relax more often.

  1. Name one thing on your Bucket List.

Travel to space

  1. Why is education important to you?

I think if there is a chance for peace on earth it is through education, not just knowing things, but understanding things and learning compassion.

  1. If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would that be?

Australia and New Zealand

  1. What is your favorite quote?

  1. What educational event do you REALLY want to attend?

I love attending ISTE,  I wish I could go every year.

  1. If you could sit with any 5 people dead or alive around your dinner table who would you choose and why?

My dad, because I miss him still. Pope Francis, he just seems cool.  Maya Angelou for the same reason.  The Dalai Lama, are you seeing a trend? Isaac Asimov, have I mentioned him enough in this post?

  1. Hottest educational trend/author for you right now.

Personalized learning. Not learning personalized for you, but taking charge of our own learning and determining what we want to learn. MOOC’s, constructivism, Rhizomatic learning, all of that is tied together.

  1. List three high points of 2013.

The success of OOE13. The growth of my PLN including how much more involved I am with them. Presenting at conferences no matter how small.

  1. Brendan, thank you! I also am a fan of Isaac Asimov. I need to re-read his work. I was trying to remember that quote and author recently. Thanks for reminder. I appreciate how your choice of career resonates in your work; you are an amazing educator, so #ooe13 was successful. Happy New Year.
